What is IXPE material

What is IXPE material?

IXPE (Irradiation Cross-linked Polyethylene), i.e. radiation cross-linked polyethylene foam, is a high-performance closed-cell foam made through a special process. It combines the advantages of traditional polyethylene materials and enhances its physical properties and chemical stability through radiation cross-linking technology.IXPE is widely used in many fields, such as automotive interiors, packaging materials, sporting goods, etc.

Manufacturing Process

  1. Raw material preparation: Firstly, choose suitable low density polyethylene as the basic raw material.
  2. Extrusion molding: Polyethylene pellets are heated to a molten state and then extruded into sheets under specific conditions.
  3. Irradiation cross-linking: The extruded polyethylene sheet is irradiated with high-energy rays (e.g. electron beams) to induce the formation of a cross-linking mesh between the molecular chains.
  4. Foaming: The temperature and pressure conditions are controlled to generate gas inside the material to achieve a uniform and stable expansion effect.
  5. Cooling and shaping: the whole production process is completed by a cooling and curing process.

Properties and Advantages

  1. Light weight: IXPE has low density and light weight. 2.
  2. good thermal and acoustic insulation: due to its unique closed cell structure, it can effectively block heat transfer and sound transmission. 3. excellent cushioning properties: soft and stable cushioning properties.
  3. excellent cushioning performance: soft and elastic, suitable for a variety of shock-absorbing occasions.
  4. Strong corrosion resistance: it has good resistance to most chemicals.
  5. Environmentally friendly and non-toxic: free of CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbons) and other hazardous substances.
  6. Easy to process: can be cut into different shapes and sizes according to demand.

Scope of application

  1. Automobile industry: used to manufacture instrument panel, door panel lining and other parts.
  2. Construction industry: used as floor underlayment to provide thermal and sound insulation.
  3. Electronic product packaging: to protect precision instruments from damage during transportation.
  4. Sports equipment: to make yoga mats, swimming floats, etc.
  5. Healthcare: Some types of IXPE meet medical standards and can be used to make mattresses, wheelchair cushions and other products.
